The Buddhism of Training

Do you like HIIT training? How about TRX? Pose Method running? There are so many different modalities out there and “new” ones are popping up all the time. Did you know spin/boxing is a thing?

As fitness professionals it’s hard to stay on top of the latest trends, but we have to if we want to maintain our competitive edge. I’m often asked what style or type of workout I think is the best. All of them are effective for someone. I’m not hedging my bet – different peoples bodies respond to the same modalities in their own way. The key is testing and retesting and measuring.

The first thing to do if you are looking for better results is to assess where you are and be crystal clear on where you want to go. What do you want to get done? If the answer is “I don’t know” then get help discovering goals or outcomes that might. E right for you. Call me, read a book, take a class, so a personal training. Try some different stuff and see what hits you.

Platoon is the Buddhism of training because we strive to master every modality and integrate parts of them to form a program that best fits your body. A little kettlebell, a little CrossFit and a little Gymnastic Bodies might do the trick. We still want to continue to test and ask “is this getting the best result for us?”

This is why our Instructors are required to get certifications every quarter and we help pay for them. Even if they don’t love yoga or Zumba they have to be proficient at teach a class. One of the perks of my job is watching a massive Instructor teach a cardio kick class.
