You’ll learn about how to train for your first race, what equipment and apparel you need and other information to help you get started. USA Triathlon certified coach Gretchen Cooney will walk you through the basics, including:
- Race distance options and suggestions for local races
- General training plan considerations, including how to balance this with the rest of your life
- Training locations
- Equipment needs
- What to wear
- What to expect for your first race
Snacks will be served and there will be Q&A!
Class Instructor Gretchen Cooney
Gretchen is a USA Triathlon Level 1 Coach and USA Triathlon Youth & Junior Coach. She is the owner/founder of Bucket List Training. She has served as a volunteer coach for Glow Girls and Kidztri3 and is also very active with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training.
Gretchen is currently a member of QT2’s Elite Age Group team, the Philadelphia Triathlon Club, and the Mullica Hill Women’s Triathlon Club. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Mullica Hill Triathlon Club and the Philadelphia Triathlon Club. Since 2005, Gretchen has worked in endurance sports event management including the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon/TriRock Philadelphia, SheROX Triathlon series, Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains and the Via Marathon. She has finished more than 40 triathlons including 6 Ironman races, and over 100 running races including 22 marathons. She has qualified for the Ironman World Championship once, the Half Ironman World Championships four times, and the Boston Marathon 6 times.
